Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center, Anchorage, AK, USA

The Anchorage Museum is a world-class art, history, ethnography, ecology and science museum located in a modern building in the heart of Anchorage, Alaska.

With its collection of 30,000 objects and 500,000 historic photographs, the Anchorage Museum is home for the Alaska office of the Smithsonian's Arctic Studies Center, which supports the museum's mission through research, education, and exhibitions.

The Scope

Zone Display Cases has worked in close partnership with GSM Projects for the design, fabrication and installation of approximately 30 extremely diversified display cases for the Alaska Exhibition, a permanent exhibit that focuses on history.

On view are more than 400 artifacts from the Anchorage Museum’s collections, each telling a story of the lived experiences of Alaskans.

Challenge

Although every project is unique, this one was extremely particular and quite challenging. Not only were most cases designed with irregular shapes and angles, but their massive steel structures were bulky and heavy, and required custom metal work with a lot of sanding, polishing and welding.

Fitting and integrating these cases to the exhibition work by GSM was also challenging.

Our Solutions

Through collaboration with GSM and our multiple subcontractors and suppliers, our professional and dedicated team of designers have shown and shared creativity and ingenuity for this project.

The Project Manager’s devotion and diligence was also essential to keep this project on track and within very tight budgets.
