In 2015-2016, Zone Display Cases was commissioned to design, build and install nearly a hundred museum quality archival display cases for the SLAM project, an acronym that stands for State Library, Archives and Museum, in Juneau, Alaska.

Description

The variety of museum display cases made in glass in this project is simply incredible!

It includes table top glass display cases, wall mounted glass display cases, and freestanding display cases, one of which measures 17 ft. tall by 8 ft. wide by 6 ft. deep.

When entering or leaving the galleries, you will walk through this gigantic and unique 20 ft. long by 17 ft. tall glass display enclosure built and installed by Zone.

Challenge

The main challenge was to deliver and install the numerous cases in Juneau, Alaska, during the Holiday Season.

Over 25 full truck loads made their way across Canada andup to Alaska via sea freight, with 15 weeks of installation.

Our Solution

Because the installation was scheduled to take between 3 and 4 months, teams of 6 to 10 people were alternated for this long journey.

This allowed them to get some rest at home and return to Juneau fully recharged. Our partnership with a local carrier was also key to delivering this project.
