The Empire State Building, New York, NY, USA
This ongoing project, completed in partnership and collaboration with Kubik Maltbie, started with 2 tall freestanding cases to display a model of the Empire State Building with a control tower.
As phase one of the decade-long Empire State Rebuilding project to modernize the building, the new entrance will greatly increase space and reduce the wait time for the annual Observatory guests.
The first two cases required a unique design that would allow the client to roll the large and heavy model out of the case while leaving it on its actual display surface. These objects were to be used and manipulated on a regular basis for presentations to the visitors.
The short timeline to complete this project was also a challenge.
Our cases, located in the lobby, blend beautifully with the historic building’s Art Deco with original floor tiles and ceiling designs.
In partnership with Kubik Maltbie, Zone has designed the cases with a U-shaped steel base that included a concealed rolling dolly on which the models would stan.
These high-quality cases each included a full access door and a sophisticated light attic with a DMX illuminator, and they were built with ultra-clear non-reflective laminated glass.
